Diversity & Inclusion Statement

It's Simple: Spread Kindness

Fiber Friends Group defines hate speech as any content that promotes violence or disrespect toward a person or group of people based on: age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, nationality, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

But, really, anything unkind should not be shared in this space.  This isn't about finding loopholes in our hate speech definition.  This is about spreading kindness and sharing friendship.  This is more about what you should do and less about what you should not do.  What you should do:

  • Ensure that all fellow fiber enthusiasts are welcomed, valued, included, and respected in your conversations.

    • Identify situations (conversations, groups, etc) in which minorities do not feel welcome and do what you can to make the situation welcoming and comfortable for all.

  • Focus on the similarities that you share with fiber enthusiasts (hint: fiber!) and form friendships on the commonalities.

    • Identify any barriers (i.e. differences) in your relationships, and look introspectively to see why this is perceived as a barrier.

  • Be open to perspectives that you may have not considered or that differ from your own.  Be respectful in responding to these situations, even if you do not agree.

  • Contribute to the kindness and friendship of the community.

For the well-being of everyone involved in the community, please do not share anything that may be perceived as disrespectful.  This group is about including every fiber enthusiast, especially giving a voice and friendship to those that typically feel threatened, ignored, and unheard.  This group is about being thoughtful and kind, reaching out to those who feel alone.
